Holy Week - an insight
An insight into the ceremonies of Holy Week

Holy Week is the culmination of the Lenten season. Leading up to the celebration of Easter, it commemorates the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Beginning with Palm Sunday on 29th March, we mark Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem.
The Chrism Mass in the Cathedral sees the clergy and lay faithful of the Diocese gathering around the Bishop in St Anne's Cathedral, Leeds at 11am on Wednesday 1st April. During the Mass, the priests of the Diocese renew their vows of ordination and the sacred oils to be used for the sacraments during the coming year are consecrated by the Bishop.
The Mass of the Lord's Supper at 7pm on Thursday 2nd April recalls the Last Supper, where Jesus instituted the Eucharist.
The Good Friday service at 3pm on Friday 3rd April observes His crucifixion and death and, in the evening at 6.30pm we remember his sacred journey in the Stations of the Cross.
Holy Saturday is a day of quiet reflection, leading to the joyful celebration of the Easter Vigil at 8pm on Saturday 4th April. During the course of the evening, a number of those who have been on a journey of faith will be baptised, confirmed, received into the Church and will receive Holy Communion for the first time.
Easter Sunday Mass at the usual times of 9am and 11am, continue the celebrations of Christ's resurrection and victory over death.
Do join us for the momentous events of Holy Week.
