Apologia
Learning how to understand and deepen our faith

A group of parishioners gathered on Sunday evening for the first session of 'Apologia' - a series designed to help us discover more about various aspects of our Catholic faith. In a 'behind the scenes' look at the various elements of the Mass, from the perspective of the sanctuary we were able to explore the altar which is at the centre of our church, seeing the marks made by the consecrating oil of Chrism in 1970 and the concealed relics underneath where the elements of bread and wine are consecrated. We then discussed and look at more carefully the liturgies of the word and communion, including the penitential rite, the readings, the homily, bidding prayers, creed and eucharistic prayers. Thank you to Elena Roth for leading us on our journey and for her personal and moving reflection on her own experience of the Mass.
The next session of Apologia will be on what the Church calls 'The Last Things'. It will take place in the parish centre at 5pm on Sunday 2nd November and will be led by the new Chair of our parish pastoral council, Ed Dyer. The Last Things cover death, judgement, heaven, hell and purgatory, all in the context of resurrection and our destiny of the heavenly realms. The session is well placed, taking place on the feast of All Saints and the eve of All Souls' Day.
Do join us for the second of these informative sessions designed help us deepen, together, our Catholic faith.
To prepare for the series, a number of parishioners were interviewed by Fr Simon about their faith. These interviews are presented in a series of videos which can be accessed at the link below. Thank you to all who contributed for their willingness to share what their faith means to them.
