All Souls' Mass, Monday 3rd November at 7pm

November is traditionally a month for remembrance, and particularly All Souls' Day, which, this year, is translated to Monday 3rd November (Sunday 2nd November is the celebration of All Saints' Day). All Souls is a day on which we commemorate those for whom we grieve and all the souls who have no-one left to pray for them. As in previous years, there will be a special Mass at 7pm on Monday 3rd November where the families of those whose funerals have taken place in the parish during the past year are invited to bring up a candle to the sanctuary in memory of their loved one. Do make a date in your diary for this important event in our spiritual calendar. Afterwards, as last year, there will be refreshments available in the parish centre including 'souls cakes'. Here's a note from Marie Baker:
Everyone is invited to join us in the Centre after the All Souls Mass for tea and coffee and Souls cakes. Souls cakes are small round spiced cakes, made for All Souls Day to celebrate and commemorate the dead. The giving and receiving of soul cakes started in the Middle Ages in England. Traditionally, soul cakes would be given out to children and the poor called “soulers” who would go from door to door, begging for a “soul cake” and promise in return to pray for the household’s deceased family members to be released from purgatory. Come and celebrate this great Catholic tradition! If you would like to volunteer to bake a batch, please contact Marie Baker and recipe will be provided. mbaker0813@gmail.com.
As we remember our deceased loved ones in November we invite you to bring a photo of your loved one to place on St. Joseph Altar from All Saints' Weekend - 1st/2nd November. Candles may be lit there for your intentions during the entire month.
On
Sunday 2nd November, between 12.30pm and 1.30pm Fr Simon will be in the cemetery at Stonefall to bless graves as directed by any parishioners who wish to meet him there.
