Christmas at St Robert's

Looking Ahead - Christmas

While we are currently immersed in the Advent season, a season full of promise and expectation, we wanted to let you know in advance the plans for the Christmas celebrations, particularly as many people are planning time with their family and wish to factor in the dates of worship.  On Sunday 21st December at 6pm we will be holding our annual parish Carol Service. There'll be lots of firm favourites to sing in preparation to celebrate the great feast to come and, afterwards, we will repair to the parish centre for mulled wine and mince pies. This event has become a firm favourite each year.

The first Mass on Christmas Eve will be at 4pm and will be geared towards children and families. As in past years, children are invited to attend dressed as a character from the nativity and the children will be gathered together at some point during the Mass to sing a couple of carols.

The next Mass on Christmas Eve will be a Vigil Mass at 7pm and that will be followed later in the evening with a Midnight Mass beginning with carols at 1130am.

On Christmas Day, there will be Masses at 9am and 11am.  If you are a minister in the parish - minister of the Eucharist, reader, server or welcomer, please do let the parish office know which Masses you are able to help out at. It's a busy time of year and all help is gratefully received.

Two years ago we published a parish photo directory. It seems appropriate, now, to update it. Parishioners who would like to be part of this project by having their photos taken and published in the directory will be able to have their picture taken in the Lady Chapel after most Sunday Masses over the coming weeks. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place on the first Saturday of each month from 4-4.50pm - an opportunity to spend some time with the Lord and, perhaps, to receive the sacrament of Reconciliation which is offered at the same time before the 5pm Mass. Next Saturday adoration is on 1st November.

The study will be Ephesians: Discover Your Inheritance. Ephesians was one of the most widely circulated of St. Paul’s writings because of its powerful, practical instructions for disciples of Christ. This study examines many important themes that are still relevant in today’s Christian culture and society—the nature of marriage, the purpose and role of the Church, the pre-eminence of grace in God’s plan, and the reality of spiritual warfare. Thank you to everyone who has signed up to join the Bible Study class, which is now full.
