Join us for the second 'Call My Bluff' Wine Evening - the first one took place in 2022 and proved very popular. During the course of the evening, a number of rose, white and red wines will be served and a specially chosen panel will enlighten us on the origin and background of the wine we are drinking. However, of the three accounts, only will be true. Those attending will be part of table groups and each group will have to decide who is telling the truth and which wine it is they are drinking. Cheese and biscuits will be served during the course of the evening which will take place in the parish centre. Places are limited so do sign up soon for what promises to be a lively and enjoyable evening. Tickets are £15 per person with any profits going to parish funds. Tickets can be purchased after the Masses this weekend with payment in cash or via the Dona machines in the narthex.

Many thanks to all who helped make Fr Jim’s two Masses, in St Aelred’s and St Robert’s, such dignified and fitting liturgies for a much loved soul. Our prayers remain with his family and friends who will be celebrating another Mass in Ireland on Monday prior to his burial alongside family members. Thank you to all who helped in any way from catering, liturgy, serving, singing and music, reading, welcoming and in the preparations for each event. May God grant eternal rest and peace to Fr Jim.

May is traditionally a month dedicated to Our Lady. Pupils from St Robert's School participated in the crowning of the statue of Our Lady. Throughout the month of May you are invited to bring flowers to her altar.

The war in Sudan has forced millions of people to flee their homes, creating one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises. The situation is quickly getting worse, and people caught up in the middle of the conflict are now facing yet another crisis – hunger. People are running out of food, water and medicine and many families continue to risk their lives fleeing their homes to escape the fighting. The next meeting of the Parish Pastoral Council takes place on Monday 10th June. The Council is drawn from those who organise finance, events, safeguarding, liturgy, youth and other areas of parish life. The Council acts as an advisory body to the Parish Priest and is a point of contact for those who wish to put forward ideas to further the mission of the parish. On Saturday 18th May, there will be a special Celebration Mass for Married Life at Leeds Cathedral at 12noon for couples and their families celebrating their 25th (Silver), 40th (Ruby), 50th (Golden), 60th (Diamond) and 70th (Platinum) wedding anniversaries this year. There will be an opportunity for couples, who wish to do so, to renew their marriage vows during the liturgy. If you are celebrating the anniversary of your wedding and you would like to take part in this celebration, please fill out the application form which is available at the back of church.

The First Holy Communion Programme got underway with a parents evening on Monday 18th March 2024 in the parish centre. The parish priest and catechist reminded the parents present of their responsibility, taken on at baptism, to be the first teachers of their child in the ways of faith. This involves each Catholic parent ensuring that they and their children take a full part in the parish, from attending Mass each Sunday to doing their bit in different ways to help the parish community. The remaining catechesis will now take place after the 9am Mass from 10-11.30am on Sunday 19th May and Sunday 16thJune, with the First Holy Communion Mass taking place at 1pm on Sunday 23rd June. A final session will be a celebration mass at 9am on 30th June where the children will be presented with their certificates. If you failed to enrol your child for this year's programme, or they are unable to attend all the sessions above, they will be warmly welcomed on to the First Communion Programme next year. The parish will be invited to join in prayer during 24 hours in May when the Blessed Sacrament will be available for adoration after the noon Mass on Friday 24th May until noon on Saturday 25th May. Parishioners will be asked to sign up for 1 hour slots throughout the days and night in order to ensure people are present and adoration takes place for the full period of time. However, you will be able to turn up at any time to take part without having signed up. This is a great spiritual opportunity to commit some time to silent prayer before the Lord. As the allotted times are signed up by people who guarantee to be present at that time, then anyone will be able to attend at a period of time of their choosing. During the silent hours, the main church door will be locked but entry will be possible through the carpark door with a code given to those who wish to attend during the course of the night.
